Please note: I typed this on Sat. May 10th and attempted psoting it on the 11th--the video wouldn't load, stay tuned! Also I didn't realize that there were many better pictures taken by other cameras, I will post those as I receive them!
Well, today was Sofia’s very first recital! It was quite an undertaking! We had dress rehearsal Wednesday night, her last class was last Saturday morning and we also had picture night the Tuesday before that. These occasions required costume, hair in a bun and make-up! (Something I am not altogether comfortable with.) I had much anxiety about the required hair-do, a bun on top of her head! With Sof’s short, wispy hair, I wasn’t sure I could pull it off! For picture night, I used a mousse, hair spray combo, for the dress rehearsal I added gel to the mix, but today the answer was Knox gelatin, ala synchronized swimmer-style! (One of the other moms actually was in synchro, and she swore by it and wouldn’t you know, it worked like a charm!) At about 10:30 this morning, I whipped Sof’s hair into the up do and here we are at 8pm and it is still up and cute! I was told that warm water will rinse it right away---- after her bath, I’ll let you know! OK-enough on the hair topic... the recital and performance made me just weep! And of course Grandma did too! The girls were clouds, but their costumes were SO ultimately ballet-ish, it was spectacular! The mom’s of 1st year tots, had to sit in the balcony with our little dancers, but a “stage mom” took them down to the back stage area at the correct time. So I sat and giggled and held my breath and cried with the other moms, I am sure I outdid them in the crying department! I had to cry all over again when Sof and I got to see our family during intermission! Our Margy and Nanny friends came with orange roses and huge hugs! Sof was thrilled they were there! Gram and grandpa gave her orange gerbera daisies and more hugs! It goes without saying that German was proud too and was accused of the traces of a tear himself! After intermission, Sof I returned to the balcony until the finale, which again brought tears, this time mainly due to the tribute to the passing of the school owner’s mother this past winter, very touching…
Needless to say, we took lots of pictures and I am tempted to keep taking them since she looks so cute with her hair up! Also there is a picture of Sof and Miss Karen--her teacher! The video I am posting was taken during the dress rehearsal, the only time when cameras were allowed! Sof is the one who stops dancing to fix the lace of her shoe! (I tied and cut those suckers off before we left the theater that night!) I think she is third from the left. Today she was dead center. (I had to purchase a professionally done DVD because I am so crazed!) My camera is shaking because I was laughing so hard-I apologize to those of you that are prone to dizziness! Sof asked me this morning if I’d be sitting in the audience laughing at her again! Grandma’s answer to that question earlier in the week was that we were so happy the laugh bubbled right out of us, I can’t agree more! Thankfully I didn’t have to explain the crying. Now I am facing post-recital blues, kind of like after Christmas blue, but luckily I have gorgeous spring weather to snap me out of it rather than a cold January!

Of course I can speak with a complete lack of bias! Sofia was the cutest one on stage and in the universe! She is sooooooo good and did a fantastic job. Our petite ballerina will be something to see in the years ahead..
